The chimes of Ohio State's Orton Hall ring out the quarter-hours in measured, ponderous half notes. Theirs is an even, certain common-time rhythm. The chimes in the Clocktower Building, here at Otago, ring the quarter-hours in a halting compound meter, uncertain or maybe absent-minded (though no less weighty for it).
